During the 10 years following 1974, development of the course evolved in line with the design and tree planting plan prepared by Mr Jack Eccles. The original farmhouse served as a congenial – but inadequate – Clubhouse. A building programme was started.
Responding to a scheme to raise finance – 300 members subscribed to the Participating Membership Scheme adopted at a special general meeting.
This was 1978, and finances now permitted work to begin on a new clubhouse. It was opened in February 1979.
The Club has continued to evolve, its course development and membership grew and its financial structure strengthened.
Course improvements have included planting decorative trees and shrubs, giving better definition to the shaping of fairways, establishing bunkers and redeveloping green and tees.
By 1997, membership had grown to the mid 1200’s, putting the Club at third equal of all 18 hole courses in New Zealand. Pressure on the Clubhouse capacity was showing. Construction commenced September 1998 for the Clubhouse extension and renovation.
April 1999 saw the Club celebrated its thirtieth birthday year with the opening of the expanded Clubhouse. These facilities are a fine asset for members and the local community and position the Club well for the future.
To date 15 of the 20 greens have been converted to sand greens in accordance with USGA Standards. Various new tees have been built to incorporate a Championship, Club and Ladies course. This recent work has been designed by leading course architect, Chris Pitman.
During 2006 the Club built and funded a new greenkeepers complex incorporating equipment storage and up to the mark chemical storage and application facilities.
A major redevelopment project was completed during 2009 encompassing a new 13th green and approach following the Pitman design and constructed by Barclay Contracting Ltd.
In 2012 the club entered into a Sale and Purchase agreement for 2.38 Ha of land with our near neighbours, Elim Senior College, that needed sports fields for their growing school roll. The sale was completed in May 2015 and plans are now in place for a portion of the 10th fairway and the practice fairway to be converted in to Football and Hockey fields and Tennis and Netball courts.
Categories of membership range through men’s and women’s full playing, intermediate and junior with a strong social participation. The Club has for many years been supported by numerous Corporate Memberships from leading businesses in the greater Auckland area.
The Club playing programme is fully supported throughout the year. District pennant men’s and women’ teams are strongly supported by members and sponsors.
